The BRIT Awards 2013 were last week and one of the big, surprise winners, at least in comparison to popularity in the U.S., was Lana Del Rey. Lana was named the best International Female Solo Artist. This was her second BRIT award. She won the International Breakthrough award last year.
What’s more astounding than the fact that Lana is incrementally more popular in GB than she is in the U.S. is the list of big names she beat out to get the award. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Cat Power and Alicia Keys were all up for the award but it’s Lana Del Rey who walked up to accept the award (The Gong), which was presented by Dermot O’Leary and Sharon Osbourne.
Lana, who was wearing a rather plain, black-sleeved, belted, short dress said,
Thank you so much! I live here and I love it here, and I wrote my record here!
I’m honored, thank you to my managers and my label Polydor for helping turn my life into a work of art.
To the good company that I’m in, very exciting, thank you so much.

Mumford and Sons – Best British Group
