I guess if there were any type of silver lining to this tragedy (and really, there isn’t, but I suppose it’s human nature to seek out the good when evil is so prevalent), the fact the victims are being highlighted instead of the psychotic criminal asshole who committed this heinous crime is one of the things being done right.
There have been no shortage of remembrances and tributes done for the innocent victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. This weekend, Saturday Night Live cold opened with the New York Children’s Choir singing a hauntingly beautiful version of “Silent Night.” The song was enough to move even the coldest of hearts to tears.
Last night, The Voice did a tribute of their own. The show’s contestants and show mentors Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, show host Carson Daly and special guest Christina Milian sang Leonard Cohen’s classic “Hallelujah.”
Held in each one of their hands was the name and age of one of the school’s victims.
It was a beautiful tribute, and worth every tear I cried.
